Having not done an Ashford Ramblers group walk along the public rights-of-way through the grounds of Leeds Castle since July 2022, we are long overdue a return. This 12 mile route not only passes by "the loveliest castle in the World", but also enjoys a fine section of the North Downs Way (NDW), you won't want to miss it.
Setting off, you will soon be treated to unlimited views of the impressive castle and might even get to see its famous black swans. Continuing onward beside Leeds & Broomfield Cricket Ground & Leeds church, our route joins the Len Valley Walk. After reaching Fulling Mill, a stretch of road follows, to then cross the A20 and under the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
Heading uphill the circuit joins the NDW, and we follow this National Trail, before dropping down to Hollingbourne. The Dirty Habit might be open, as they announced a reopening date of Spring 2026, having been ravaged by fire in October 2022. All that remains to complete the walk, is to pass through Eyhorne Street before finishing.
There will be the usual short picnic stop, hopefully drinks en route at the Dirty Habit, whilst the Park Gate Inn is handily placed for post walk drinks.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
