This 9 mile Good Friday walk starting from Hythe, is most definitely a walk of contrasting halves, as all the ascent of approximately 900 feet, comes during the second half of this delightful circuit.
We will make swift progress on the easy flat start heading along the seawall to Sandgate, via Seabrook. We will pause to view Sandgate Castle, which was built in 1539 during the reign of Henry VII against the possible French or Spanish invasion. Then follows a loop of Enbrook Park, which is a pleasant wooded and leafy stroll beside the Enbrook stream, before commencing the return to Hythe, with the uphill section to enjoy.
Our route dips briefly at Seabrook, then rises again to pass through a lovely wooded section, passing beside Shornclife Military Cemetery and onward across Sene Valley Golf, where we join a stretch of the Elham Valley Way.
All that remains is the descent back to Hythe, where there is ample choice of pubs to enjoy a post walk drink, the White Hart or Red Lion are particular favourites of the walk leader.
As well as the opportunity for our post walk social, we will of course have our usual short picnic stop at a suitable point en route.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
Walk leader is Kevin Hall
