This is a walk of approximately 12 miles that starts from the village of Beckley in East Sussex, which lies ten miles north of Hastings. Some people believe that the village is haunted by the ghost of Sir Reginald Fitz-Urse, who galloped here from Canterbury to seek sanctuary after murdering Thomas a Becket!
We set off, hoping not to see a ghost, passing through the edge of Bixley Wood, where there is a Nature Reserve then more woodland follows, before our route later heads down to Pelsham Farm. It is mostly a mix of open countryside and farmland, but when we reach Udimore, we can divert off to visit the Kings Head pub for drinks. Our picnic lunch will as ever take place at a suitable stopping point en route.
During the second half of the route, the group will walk briefly beside the River Tillingham, then north through Furnace Wood, Tilebarn Wood and Hoath Wood, and very briefly on the Sussex Border Path, before finishing.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
