Starting from one of the most attractive villages in Kent we follow a varied circuit roughly following the Stour Valley. Following 'Mountain Street' (no mountain!) we head towards Godmersham Park, an estate that belonged to Jane Austen’s brother - the house is thought to be the model for Mansfield Park in the eponymous novel. Then up onto the downs towards Chartham. Here we have lunch, possibly at the lovely and 700 year old Artichoke pub or a picnic in the churchyard. Then back to Chilham through orchards and a newish vineyard (Domaine Evremond) following the North Downs Way in part. EX137.
