Join us for a circular walk of just under 11 miles from Amersham Metropolitan Line station. The winter version reflects the fact there will be some mud but hot chocolate will hopefully be available from the ice cream shop in Old Amersham on our return.
We start outside Amersham station and hike down to Old Amersham car park (paid) where we have a quick loo stop, meet up with any car drivers and have the walk briefing. We expect to be in the car park at approximately 10.30am.
We will pass through the attractive villages of Coleshill, Winchmore Hill, Penn Street, Beaumont End and Little Missenden. Our picnic lunch after about five miles will be at Penn Street where there are benches and a small bus shelter. There is a pub, but please purchase a drink if you use the loos.
Terrain is gently undulating but with a steep climb up to Amersham station at the end (except for the car drivers who we will deliver back to the car park). We will follow field and woodland paths with a little road walking and a fast main road crossing (extra care needed). There are some pleasant views and if we are lucky we may spy the county of Surrey. We will pass through the largest beechwood in the Chilterns and view a Robert Adam `grand portico` from afar.
Please bring a packed lunch.
Expect mud-walking boots advised and sticks if you use them.
Toilets in Old Amersham car park and in pub at lunch time.
Car parking charges apply.
Do not rely on the end time.
