We park at Chop Gate near village hall ( Cost of parking £6 for day). There is a steep climb up to Cock Howe and we then turn north, passing Barkers ridge, eventually arriving at Lordstones country park ( lunch). After lunch, we follow a lower route on the scarp face with extensive and exhilarating views across the plain to the north before a further steep climb on the Cleveland Way and then heading south in a generally downwards descent back to Chop Gate, where we will take tea at the Buck Inn with its charismatic German landlord. Throughout, wild moorland and extensive views .
