This is a longer walk at about 8.8 miles, through delightful countryside with lovely views including sight of Clavering Lakes. It is generally easy-going, on footpaths & over meadows and fields, with no steep climbs or descents. There is some road walking to connect the footpaths. There are some stiles, gates and many wooden footbridges. Bridges will be slippy if there has been rain and 2 were almost impassable because of brambles and nettles. I have reported this to Essex CC for action; meantime am hoping to find a walk-around.
The Cricketers pub is less than half a mile from where we start our walk and is open 7 days a week. The kitchen closes at 2.30pm. The walk took me almost 3.5hrs so we could get to the pub in time to order food, should anyone want it.
We have permission to park in Clavering Village Hall’s carpark on Hill Green, Saffron Walden CB11 4QS. Please bring £1 (or more!) as a donation and park along the fence, furthest from the Hall entrance, to leave space for anyone using the Hall that day.
