Overview

From South Kirkby we make our way over the fields to Broad Lane (this first section can be muddy, unfortunately) and up to High Lane with its splendid open views.
Clayton makes a good spot for a late elevenses, and a short section of the Barnsley Boundary Walk takes us back to High Lane where we pick up the Wakefield Way to Howell Wood Country Park.
Our route back then follows in reverse the original (2004) proposed line of the Wakefield Way, past the pond and icehouse, through Howell Wood and along the permissive footpath to Bird Lane, a pleasant track which returns us to Broad Lane and South Kikby
