For the sixth section of the Cleveland Way we begin by the coast in Saltburn and then head inland and onto the North York Moors to Gribdale Gate, taking in the renowned landmark of Roseberry Topping along the way.
We begin with a short but steep climb as we head through Saltburn and into the woodlands of Saltburn Valley Gardens where we then emerge in the suburb of Skelton. Once we have passed through Skelton, the route quickly becomes less urban and more rural with great views of the surrounding countryside and the North York Moors beyond. The route then continues along both tracks and paths as we head through Slapeworth, Guisborough woods and onto Highcliff Nab.
From there we enter the North York Moors national park and heads across Newton Moor. There is then another short but steep climb to reach the summit of Roseberry Topping where we will be able to admire the far reaching views of North Yorkshire and Cleveland. The descent is then swiftly followed by one final accent as we follow the path along the edge of the moors for the last stretch to Gribdale Gate.
