This walk follows the valley of the River Clywedog from the Minera Lead Mine. It is 7.5 miles and should take 3.5 hours including two stops.
Tracks from the lead mine arrive at a crossing of the road and a broad lane is followed down into the valley. After entering a wood, the river is crossed by a choice of two bridges and we follow it downstream on the left bank. The path is routed through the edge of urban development before taking a turn into a hidden valley occupied by gnomes and various creatures including a red dragon. We eventually use a section of road to reach Nant Mill and stop for coffee (the toilets here are NOT open!) Back in the wood we cross the river again to climb out of the valley and take a short section of road before paths across three fields lead to another road (cattle in one field but quiet). We follow this minor road and reach Bersham Ironworks and church. Here we take the Clywedog Trail through beautiful woodland enclosing a meandering river with a splendid waterfall where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we continue to follow the river upstream again passing Nant Mill. The riverside path reaches a ford and we then (briefly and easily) climb towards the lead mine and the end of the walk.
