We take the Offa’s Dyke path into Racecourse Wood. Beware here as there is significant harvesting. The route is mainly downhill in this section and there are some steep places covered in leaves where careful descent is required; poles may assist. We enter the valley of the River Morda and then the parkland of the Llanforda Estate where we will stop for coffee. We climb a little, passing Llanforda Wood, and take field paths to the road near Oerley Hall. There are a number of gates installed by Ramblers (hurrah!) but alas three stiles to cross. A short section of road leads to the track to Underhill after which we walk on a minor road at the edge of the Brogyntyn Estate. We leave the road and enter woodland where we will have a second stop for refreshments. There is then a short climb up to Racecourse Common and a return to the start. In clear weather there are some extensive views towards the east.
The walk is 6.5 miles long and should take 2.5 to three hours including stops for refreshments.
The leader will meet you at the start.
