Pretty stone villages with great industrial heritage and tranquil countryside where the South Pennines end and the Yorkshire Dales begin beyond the Aire Valley. From the former lead-mining centre of Cononley via lanes and tracks to Lothersdale with beck side paths and lanes meandering back past an old lead mine to the start.
The starting point for the walk is the front of the railway inn, on main street in Cononley.
Cononley has a number of train services from Leeds and Bradford. The 09:56 service from Leeds arrives in to Cononley station, a short distance from the starting point of the walk, at 10:31.
