Welcome to Capital Walkers, the friendly London Ramblers group for people aged 40+. We walk every weekend and usually at least once during the week.
Cookham, Cookham. So good we go there twice!! (Well, technically 3 times…)
We head from the station into and straight out of the village, then on to a peaceful stretch of the Thames Path down river to Boulter Lock, then head cross country back to the village for either a picnic lunch on the green or at the pub opposite. We then head upstream before skirting along Winter Hill for lovely views and via Cookham Dean before returning back to Cookham and the station.
No booking required. The finishing time is an estimate only and will depend on the speed of the group, weather and number of breaks. There is an option to reduce the length of the second loop by climbing up the Chiltern Way path onto Winter Hill, to try to time our return with the hourly service from Cookham to Maidenhead or if the weather dictates.
There is also the option to drop out before the second loop (after 6.5 miles) at lunchtime.
NOTE: there is an infrequent connection to Cookham. If you miss that then it will be necessary to join the walk at Boulter Lock and find your own way there from Maidenhead (allow 30mins walk). Please call the leader if that happens.
Take the 09.38 train from Paddington and change at Maidenhead to arrive at Cookham at 10.10.
Bear in mind that the service from Maidenhead is hourly only so please allow time to make the connection.
Return trains from Cookham are at 44 minutes past the hour.
