A circular walk from Hertford East Train Station at a pace of about three miles per hour following the Hertfordshire Way which takes us along a lovely section of the River Beane; set in an area of tranquil beauty, open fields and peaceful lanes.
We leave the River Beane at Stapleford and go west along quiet scenic lanes to Bramfield for our lunch stop. Bramfield is a charming village with a striking 12th century Norman Church - St Andrews.
After lunch we folllow the Hertfordshire Chain Walk for a trail to the River Mimram for a pretty waterside approach to Hartingfordbury; home to St Mary’s Church, and the unmarked grave of Jane Wenham the last person in England sentenced (but pardoned) for witchcraft in 1712.
The final section of this walk links with the Cole Green Way and the Lea Valley Walk to take us back to Hertford East Station.
This is a lovely walk with wide open spaces, fields, woodland footpaths, riverside paths and quaint villages steep in history.
There are limited facilities on this trail so be prepared to be flexible and adaptable.
