End of SUW at Cockburnspath to the start of the John Muir Way at Dunbar.
Meet 10:00am Leisure Centre Dunbar (free parking). Walk (5 minutes) to bus stop at end of High Street. Then take bus No 253 @ 10.15 to Cockburnspath arr 10:39 @ Bowling Green
Walk to start 10:45 from Village Cross, follows grassy track and then Dunglass Burn to reach the coast, 2km with a gradual descent of 230ft (70m). Having reached the coast we will follow it all the way to Dunbar, walking round Torness Power Station (boring bit but you may see lots of birds enroute). Walk then continues to Barns Ness Lighthouse and on to Catcraig. The last mile is through Dunbar Golf Course and the back streets of Dunbar to reach the Harbour close to the Leisure Centre.
The walk is 11 miles but straightforward and will be taken at a leisurely pace from the start.
There are options at the end of the walk:
- John Muir Birthplace Museum is in the High Street 2 minutes from where we park & is open to 5.00pm last entry 4.30pm.
- There are many cafes/bars within minutes of parking
For car share to Dunbar meet Leaderfoot NT576 345 @ 8.30am
Travel if using train:
Leave Gala 8.23, arrive Dunbar 9.59 (bus stop 5 minutes from station)
Return 16:52 from Dunbar, arrive Gala 18:37 (£15.55 return with railcard, £23.60 without)
Linear walk, grade C+, leisurely but long. Boots and poles are advised.
