PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A CHANGED WALK. THE PLANNED WALK AT HOWNAM LAW HAS BEEN CANCELLED BECAUSE THE FIELDS ARE FULL OF COWS WITH CALVES.
This is a moderate circular walk, starting at 10.00 from the new car park at Yarrowford, above the village hall. We will walk from the car park up the Minchmoor Road, an old Drove Road with a short steep ascent at the start, giving way to a series of gentler climbs, all over grassy paths, to the Southern Upland Way.
We will walk eastward along the SUW, another Drove Road, to the highest point on the walk, at Brown Knowe, and skirt Broomy Law, enjoying fine long views in all directions. A little beyond Broomy Law, we come to a "crossroads", and we walk slowly down a grassy path into the valley of Old Broadmeadows Burn from which we walk down through a delightful woodland path to find our way back to the car park.
There will be a lunch stop and drinks stops as required. Full hill-walking gear required. Walking poles will be useful.
Refreshments available afterwards at the Waterwheel Cafe or in Selkirk.
Circular walk, grade C+, moderate. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
