This 10.5 mile walk starts from Cranbrook, which is often called the "capital of the Weald", it is a small charming town which is dominated by a smock windmill built in 1814.
We set off up the steps past the church, heading uphill through Buckhurst Farm, proceeding along fields and tracks continuing onwards to the edges of Hemsted Forest. We cross the road and into the grounds of Benenden School to turn left along a track, before eventually emerging into open parkland. A short road stretch then takes us into Benenden, where the quaint village green awaits for our snack break stop, with the opportunity for a pub stop for drinks.
After our stop, we head through the churchyard to join the High Weald Landscape Trail, which we follow for much of the second half of the walk. On reaching Cranbrook we will head towards the windmill for a closer inspection of this landmark, before the short walk back to our starting point.
There are a few short inclines, could be muddy in places, and don't forget your pork pie & sandwiches, plus any other tit bits you fancy bringing for the lunch break. And to save any element of doubt, the obligatory pub stop will follow immediately after our lunch stop.
Dogs welcome with well behaved owners.
