There are a plethora of fantastic walks in the area, and this one is no exception, but be prepared though for a sprinkling of steep ascents & descents on this 11-mile walk from Wye Downs. Apart from the area being of interest to naturalists, there are awe-inspiring views across the Weald towards the Romney Marsh and beyond.
Commencing with vigour from Wye National Nature Reserve that overlooks the Devil's Kneading Trough, our circuit heads to the Millstone viewpoint. After tarrying awhile in the early stages, to admire the view, we have to tackle the first steep descent of our stupendous yomp. However there is help in places, with some wooden steps for guidance zig-zagging down to then follow Amage Lane for a short distance. Turning right, it is then back uphill at Amage Farm, crossing Coldharbour Lane to follow the North Downs Way (NDW) over to Wye Crown.
On reaching the wonderful panoramic view at the Crown, we then leave it, heading northwards to soon join a couple of byways en route to Hassell Street. When the group arrive at Hastingleigh, we will have a drink in the very welcoming Bowl Inn, which have used for a pit stop many times.
If we haven't already found a spot for lunch, we will have it at Hastingleigh church, which is nestled neatly in the valley. Our final leg back to Wye Downs, rejoins the NDW at Coldblow, the peace normally only shattered by the barking dogs, when passing Wyncot Kennels.
