Initially walking South, up a gentle incline, we will reach Badnage Wood (Crocodile's back). We will walk West to East along the woodland ridge, and descend the hill to a clearing after about an hour for a coffee stop near Doctor's Coppice.
The route will take us past Red Castle (private property where we have permission to walk), through Watery Lane, and past the Grade I Listed Church of St Lawrence, Canon Pyon. We will walk to the West side of Pyon Hill, past Crockshill Wood, and up to Canon Pyon House, stopping for a lunch at another field clearing with hill views. Next, over to the Grade II Listed St Mary's Church Kings Pyon, with a Listed First World War Memorial.
Heading back South, we will take in the beautiful Grade II* Listed Butthouse (again a private property with kind owner's permission), featuring an old cider press in the grounds and oak-framed jettied Gatehouse, dating from 1632. Heading back East to Nupton - join us for a well-earned coffee and cake!
This is mainly footpath walking, but there will be approx. 2 miles on minor roads.
