We meet at the Carpenters Arms in Dale Abbey, walk past the local attractions along a sandstone ridge to Locko Park and return through farmland to our starting point.
Please park only in the pub car park if you intend to stay for drink or food afterwards, otherwise please find a spot on the adjacent lanes.
This is a circular stroll through pleasant countryside between Ilkeston and Derby with interesting attractions. We will see the remains of the abbey founded by Augustinian canons, the old infirmary of the abbey which is now the smallest church building in England, Hermit's cave chiselled into the local sandstone cliff, and finally the Grade II* listed Locko Park with its Italianate country house that started as a hospital for lepers. The walk follows some good tracks but also has soft trails and field crossings which can be very muddy. There are three stiles and one steeper hill but no live stock.
