Circular Walk around Dengie National Nature Reserve – 11 miles
Dengie National Nature Reserve is a remote landscape of tidal mudflats and saltmarsh lying between the Blackwater and Crouch estuaries. The saltmarsh, the largest continuous example of its kind in Essex, features cockleshell spits and beaches and supports an outstanding range of rare coastal plants
The route is largely flat and open, following a mixture of gravel tracks, farm field edges, grass paths and sections of sea wall along the exposed coastline. Underfoot conditions are natural and can be muddy in places, particularly after wet weather, so suitable clothing and footwear is essential.
There is a public toilet at the car park where we start and finish. This will be the only toilet available on the walk.
We will stop for a packed lunch en route, approximately halfway.
There will be the option for refreshments afterwards at The Fox & Hounds, Tillingham.
Meeting point: Westfield Car Park, Tillingham, Southminster, CM0 7TP
Dogs: To the best of my knowledge, the area is generally dog-friendly. However, Dengie is a National Nature Reserve with sensitive wildlife, so anyone bringing a dog should check current local guidance in advance and be prepared to keep dogs under close control, including on a lead where required.
