We leave the car park at Compton heading north east, on a track gradually ascending via Fernbeds Down to cross the B 2141 at Kill Devil Copse. We have a short descent followed by an ascent up Little Round Down. We carry on until we join the SDW at Pen Hill (short steep section alert!). We should have great views from here. We stay on the SDW going up Philliswood Down, then leave it to descend through the woods to Hooksway. Following the road out of Hooksway we cross back over the B 2141 to go through fields down to East Marden. From East Marden we turn west, ascending Battines Hill Wood and passing Up Marden. We return to Compton via Lockash Farm.
There will be a mid-morning stop between 1030-1100 and lunch about 1230. If we return early enough there's the option of a cuppa at Compton shop.
There are sections of chalk track on the walk which may be slippery.
Please book this walk with the leader.
