Overview

A superb walk across moors and through farmland, with views for miles (weather permitting).

The route climbs up and over Muggleswick Park, with its signature three curricks, before going southeast to Middle Horsleyhope, then to Middles Farm. Climbing up the valley from here we join Nanny Mayers Incline (an incline on the old Stanhope and Tyne mineral railway named after the widow who farmed the land). At Waskerley there is an opportunity to visit the unusual church of St Matthew before making our way north to Smiddy Shaw Reservoir. Our return across moorland and fields is via Lamb Shield Farm before descending to Edmundbyers.
