You can enjoy one of our favourite walks in Allendale with a chance to do another section of Issac's Tea Trail.
As you walk this circular route, you’ll not only enjoy sweeping views of the North Pennines AONB, but also trace the footsteps of miners, traders, and farmers whose lives were bound to this rugged landscape. This walk explores the Allen Valleys, an area shaped as much by people as by nature as for centuries, these valleys were at the heart of Britain’s lead mining industry.
The route leaves Allendale to climb to Dryburn Moor onto open moorland where the scars of old mine workings and chimney bases reveal the area’s industrial past. This is the wildest, most exposed part of the route, with panoramic vistas across the Pennines.
Skirting the moor we descend, picking up Issac's Tea Trail, into the more sheltered West Allen Valley, where the landscape softens with green fields, stone barns, and riverside meadows. Our route takes us through Monk Wood and up to Keenley and follows minor tracks and paths back into Allendale, where cafés and pubs provide a well-earned rest.
