Starting at Elmley Castle we will follow primarily field paths along the foot of Bredon Hill to Great Comberton, where we will have a coffee break. After passing the Deer Park Vineyard, we join the Wychavon Way and a 1 in 10 ascent towards Battens Wood. We then follow the contours of the hill with views back to the Avon and Birlingham in the valley below. We will then descend through the Bredon Hill National Nature Reserve to Bredon's Norton, passing Woollas Hall and St Catherine's Farm along the way. We will have our lunch at Bredon's Norton before starting a fairly steep ascent (approx 1 in 8) towards the top of Bredon's Hill, with its wonderful views over the Vale of Evesham. Reaching the top we will have a short coffee break before a short walk along the top of the hill, after which we will descend fairly steeply back towards Elmley Castle. There are toilet facilities in the Queen Elizabeth 1 pub in Elmley Castle at the start and end of the walk, and opportunities for comfort breaks in a number of wooded areas along the way. The walk is mostly along well defined pathways, but some patches are likely to be muddy. Given the steepness of some of the ascents and descents, walking poles are advisable for those who use them. Suitable footwear (boots) and clothing for the conditions are essential as it can get very windy on top of the hill.
You can expect beautiful views along large parts of the walk. There are only 2 stiles on the walk, but several steep stretches (ascent and descent). Comfort breaks along the route are possible in various wooded areas. We will have a morning coffee break, a lunch break and and afternoon coffee break, so please ensure you bring drinks and a packed lunch.
Sorry, but no dogs (except assistance dogs).
