Please join us for a late autumn linear walk through the beautiful Lee Valley, Epping Forest and Roding Valley with great views. From Enfield Lock near the former home of the Lee-Enfield rifle we cross the Lee Valley and pass the George V reservoir. Then we have a few climbs into the Sewardstone Hills, including up to Hawk Wood.
The lunch stop is at Chingford for a picnic. Drinks and light snacks are available from the Butler Retreat Cafe. The nearby Epping Forest Visitors Centre has toilets. You can also see the historic Queen Elizabeth I Hunting lodge.
In the afternoon we go through more forest meadows and the Roding Valley nature reserve.
This walk covers sections 18 & 19 of the London Loop.
This is a joint walk with the Richmond group.
Transport recommendations: Victoria line to Tottenham Hale for the 10:55 Greater Anglia Hertford East service to Enfield Lock, or getting the same train from Liverpool Street station at 10:39.
We meet at Enfield station (zone 6) on the "from" London platform near the exit and front of the train. There are no ticket barriers.
There are no toilets at Enfield Lock station, but there are toilets on the train. On the train I travelled on had toilets toward the front and towards the back of the train,
When I did the recce last Wednesday the paths were mostly dry, with some quite muddy bits.
