Heading out from the car park we make our way via Fairlie train station to Fairlie Glen, an area of lovely woodland and tumbling water. At Fairlie Castle we leave the glen to take a path through statuesque beech trees with views across the Clyde to the islands.
Before long we start to gently climb, breaking the climb with our coffee break. Shortly before entering open moorland we head down into the Kelburn estate, where we follow the estate road with changing views out over the Clyde.
Our route then follows the Countess Way to Kelburn Castle, where we will stop for lunch under cover near the café. After lunch we do a short loop of the glen before heading out of the estate and back to our cars via the Ayrshire Coastal Path.
