We will start this walk from the Loch Lomond Shores car park, heading up Stoneymollan towards Stoneymollan Muir, with the emphasis on the word UP! Although it’s a relatively short distance up this track, we will appreciate a coffee/tea stop to catch our breath. We will then turn to the South East and continue our ascent to the trig point just short of Overton Muir. The ground underfoot across the Muir is often waterlogged and boggy in places. From the trig point there is a brief but shallow descent before another climb towards the ruins of a fort. As you traverse the Muir you are rewarded with great views over towards Port Glasgow across the River Clyde. From the fort we start our descent to the Carmen Reservoir where we will stop for lunch. A short walk from here and we arrive in Renton, and the option at this point for those that prefer a shorter walk is too catch a bus back to Balloch. The tail end of this walk will see us walking back to Balloch alongside the River Leven.
Owing to the ground and conditions underfoot good waterproof boots are essential, along with gaiters and poles if you use them.
