Overview

Join our welcoming and friendly Group for some pleasant, relaxing, easy-paced walk and chat in the hills, woods and green fields around the small, vibrant Shropshire border town of Bishop's Castle. You will be treated to magnificent views all around of the Shropshire Hills and distant Cambrian ranges, together with the many river valleys and far-reaching rolling countryside of the Welsh Marches.

Starting by passing through the picturesque and quirky settlement of Bishop's Castle, we travel through green arable pastureland to the South of the town. Our ramble then takes us through Blakeridge Wood, a hilly and heavily forested unspoilt natural haven with its distinct and unusual hotspots of flora and copious bird and animal life and signs of their habitation.  Whilst walking through this forested area, the atmosphere of the walk changes to become brooding and foreboding.

Our journey then loops around through open countryside, including taking in a section of the Shropshire Way, back to our start point. Here we will share and be calmed by the natural wonder of the Welsh Marches countryside. None of your big attractions or hotspots here -  just simple Mother Nature and the companionship of Fellow Man.

As always in these parts, there will be a display of the plentiful and varied bird and wildlife which reside in the rural haven to entertain us on our journey.
