Starting at the Fife coastal town of Kinghorn this walk takes us out of the town at first away from the coast and past the Kinghorn Loch and Ecology Centre. There are good paths here going slightly uphill through a wooded area and offering lovely views across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh. The track then descends to the town of Burntisland and follows the shore for a while before cutting through new housing on the outskirts of the town. It’s not the prettiest of scenery here on tarmac footway which lasts for about 3km before the route rejoins the coast skirting the railway line. The final section takes the coastal path into the picturesque Arberdour with its Silver Sands beach. Following round the coast line we will climb up a short hill to Hawkcraig Point and then on to Aberdour Harbour before coming through the town to the train station for the journey back to Glasgow.
There are good paths for the duration so comfortable walking shoes would suffice for this ramble. Toilets along the way in Burntisland and Aberdour
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the Leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks in advance (26th July).
Also, please provide the Leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
A short distance from the station you will find the 12th Century Aberdour Castle and walled gardens (closes 16:30) and St Fillan’s church (11th Century ) which is still serving the local parishioners.
The Edinburgh Festival will be underway, so you may want to linger in the city, or indeed Aberdour for a while before heading for home.
