Overview

This walk will complete the final section of the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Way, which we have been walking as a group this summer.

We will meet at Filey train station at 10am to get the 10:17 train to Bempton and walk from Bempton back to Filey.  The walk is primarily along the beautiful coastline between Bempton and Filey on coastal paths, grass tracks and minor roads.

We will be accessing the coast path through Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve run by the RSPB. They would usually charge entrance, but as we will just be walking across the reserve on the footpath they have agreed to waive this. There will be an optional donation box, so you may wish to bring some change if you want to make a small donation.

We will hopefully get some sightings of gannets and perhaps other seabirds, and it should be low tide allowing us to walk along the beautiful sandy beach for the last part of the route.  When we arrive in Filey, if you wish you can join me to continue on to the official end of the walk, on the cliffs above Filey Brigg or call it a day! Those who wish to can finish with well-deserved fish and chips or ice creams in Filey.

There is a small car park at Filey station, no charge for those using the train, if this is full there is also a larger car park close by at Station Avenue, Filey, £9 for the day.  There is also the option of on street parking in some streets in the area.

Alternatively, you can get the train from Scarborough, it is the same train that goes through to Bempton.  If you get the 10.02 from Scarborough and stay on the train to Bempton we will be getting on this one from Filey so can meet you on the train.  If you are taking this option please let me know so we know to look out for you!  There are trains back to Scarborough at 17.25 or 18.26 for anyone wishing to take the train.

There are toilets at the station in Filey and on the train. Dogs are welcome on the walk but will need to be on leads for some sections, and will need to be well behaved on trains!
