A North Pennine moorland and valley walk exploring the industrial heritage of the area. If the weather is clear, we should have extensive views!
We pass Low Bollihope quarry and lake to follow the Weardale Way east along the Bollihope Burn, via White Kirkley and the edge of Harehope quarry wildlife site (renown for Frosterley marble). We continue on the Weardale Way as it snakes up via West Biggins to the moors. Here we turn west along the ridge, passing the 'Elephant Trees' on our way to the trig point on Five Pikes and then Pawlaw Pike (at 488m). We return down through the disused mine workings and quarries of Hawkwood and Howden burns.
Advance booking is required for this walk. To reserve your place, please e-mail the walk leader, Liz, through the contact box above - and remember to include your mobile number in the e-mail.
