From Fox House the walk descends to Longshaw (National Trust) before heading across to Toads Mouth to cross the busy A6187. We then follow a path over the moor to skirt the edge of the Iron Age hill fort of Carl Wark. From here we cross the moor westwards to the sheepfold then turn southwards, enjoying the great views, through the former Millstone Quarry to recross the A6187. We then take a lesser used path across National Trust land to Greenwood Farm from where we descend on tracks and paths to the River Derwent. The walk then follows the river to Leadmill Bridge and returns along field paths and lanes to finish in the centre of Hathersage.
