Dramatic cliffs and pretty coves of Gower's south coast - an enticing prospect for an early autumn outing.
We start at Southgate with its large National Trust car park then turn inland and eastwards over fields and into woodland. The wide open skies belie how close we are to Swansea, but reaching the edge of Pyle we head down to the coast. Wonderful coves with their tales of smugglers - Brandy cove, Pwll Du - and the rugged cliffs give plenty of photo opportunities.
From sea level to the top of the cliffs, we'll have some good climbs to get our hearts pumping. Arriving back at Southgate, will we have the chance for an ice cream?
As usual, walking boots and waterproofs are needed for possibly wet / slippery surfaces. Poles are useful too - paths are uneven, sometimes narrow and we do walk on the cliff tops.
Cash might be advisable, sometimes preferred by cafes and village shops. A National Trust card will grant you free parking. There's more information on the National Trust website.
May be suitable for dogs on a short lead, but there are a couple of stiles so please do contact walkleader.
