The walk starts from outside the Salutation Inn, Ham, Berkeley GL13 9QH. We will make our way along through the village before climbing an escarpment and traversing the full length of the elevated Whitcliff Park (If we’re lucky we will see their herd of deer!).
We will then descend out of the park to cross low-lying fields bounded by streams and ditches. We will eventually reach the village of Stone where we will stop for a short break and refreshments.
There are a couple of hills but nothing too strenuous.
Afterwards we will make our way through the churchyard and out of the village - towards the Little Avon River. We’ll follow alongside the river all the way to the edge of Berkeley, enjoying great views of the castle as we approach. The walk then deviates southward back into the village of Ham.
We can have a drink in the Salutation Inn after the walk.
Bring drinks and snacks as we will be having a 10 minute stop. Walking sticks and sturdy hiking boots would be advantageous too.
There is a Christmas Market in the Salutation today 11:00 until 4:00 pm that might be worth a visit.
Please remember to bring your ICE (In Case of Emergency) cards in your pocket.
