Starting from the Cock Inn, Hanbury, this figure of eight walk takes us on a mixture of field and lane walking towards Draycott, with some spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. There are a couple of gentle, but longish, climbs during this part of the walk. We return to Hanbury for a break at the ancient Hanbury parish church, which hopefully will be open to view (plus toilet facilities available!). The church interior is well worth a few minutes of your time. Please bring your own refreshments.
We then go to see the site of the famous Fauld crater, created after an explosion in 1944 - the largest ever in the UK. At the time of the recce, there was a beautiful wild flower display surrounding the crater area.
There are about 14 stiles, all in good condition. Some cattle in a couple of fields. A short section of uneven, ploughed field where walkers may wish to use walking poles.
Please join us in the pub after the walk.
