We are the Mid Staffordshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Welshpool is a quaint market town about 4 miles from the English border and was once once in Montgomeryshire. The route starts in the centre of this charming little place as we make our way up, on Broad Street to the Llanerchydol Estate. This is a pleasant Autumn walk on well established paths over rolling hills and vales and a descent on the Owen Glyndwr Way. (He died in 1416 leading a revolt against the English). We also cross a hillside golf course in excellent condition. Y Golfa hill is at an elevation 1120 ft affording magnificent views of surrounding countryside, in particular of the Breidden Hills to the North East.
Please let the Leader know you're coming. Bring with you sufficient food and drinks for the trip. We will take a coffee ☕ at the start time permitting. You will need your outdoor gear, ICE details and lightweight boots or leather boots if you prefer. A toilet, works on a bank card for 20p (might be a bit more now) and refreshments available at start. Not many stiles to worry about.
On the A483 you come to a large roundabout at Welshpool Station CP. Take third left up Smithfield Road to a smaller roundabout. Straight over into Mill Lane passing Aldi on your right. The pay CP is opposite St.Mary's church on Salop Road.
