This is an interesting and scenic urban linear walk, from Edinburgh city centre's west end to the waterfront, offering a mix of historic urban and natural scenery as well as views of the Firth of Forth. We start at Haymarket Station and finish at Granton Harbour, from where we return by bus. The route takes in the Water of Leith path, the Botanic Gardens which should have lovely autumn colours, Goldenacre and Trinity old railway paths. A walk along the shore takes us to Granton Harbour.
We plan to have tea & cakes at The Iona Cafe, at St Columba's Hospice, shortly before reaching Granton. Please bring some cash for a donation for the teas & coffee, there is a charge for cakes. There is also a small gift shop.
At end of our walk, there are several buses from Granton, but the 19 will return us to the West End.
Please remember bus passes if you have them.
If you would like to join us, please contact the Walk Leader to book a place in advance, noting that for some walks places may be limited. Please advise the Walk Leader of any issue that may affect your ability to complete the walk.
Also, if you have one, please remember to bring your ICE card with you; or, if you don’t have one, a note of your proposed emergency contact name and number will be required in case of emergency.
As we are using urban paths conditions underfoot should be firm and well drained, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Please note that, unfortunately, we don't accommodate dogs on our walks.
All finishing times are approximate.
