Have you thought about walking with a group? - If so, please come and join Balerno Ramblers on a leisurely walk through the scenic countryside of the south western edge of the city. You will discover a network of paths through fields, woodlands and alongside the Water of Leith that perhaps you didn't know existed, all within easy reach of the city.
After receiving a warm welcome from your walk leader, you will be given a full description of the route and have opportunity to ask any questions before setting off to enjoy the fabulous views of our beautiful local countryside.
Starting from the Pentland View Car Park, our route follows a short stretch of the Water of Leith Walkway before branching off to visit Blinkbonny Village. We follow country paths and tracks, with views of the glorious Pentland Hills, to head towards Colinton. Walking through open fields alongside an equestrian centre, we pass underneath the city bypass, to arrive into Campbell Park, where a zigzag path down a glen arrives at Spylaw Park. An attractive local park & greenspace on the banks of the Water of Leith, this is where we stop for a break and have opportunity to admire the large variety of ornamental and native trees that grown here. Our return journey re-joins the Water of Leith Walkway upstream back to the start.
What do I wear?
- Comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather forecast, hopefully it will not be raining, but be prepared! Footwear should be supportive; some tracks may be muddy.
What do I bring? - Please bring a drink/snack to refuel on your route. Also, if you have one, please remember to bring your ICE (In Case of Emergency) card with you. If you don’t have one, a note of your proposed emergency contact name and number will be required in case of emergency.
Sorry - Please note that, unfortunately, dogs cannot be accommodated on our walks.
How do I join? - If you would like to join us, please contact the Walk Leader to book a place in advance. Please advise the walk leader of any issue that may affect your ability to complete the walk.
And finally - After the walk, there is opportunity to go into the Corner Cafe, which is near the start point, for a refreshment and/or lunch before returning home.
Finishing time is approximate.
