Cross the road and walk through New Carlton Cemetary to Calton Road and Holyrood Palace. Toilets available in Palace café if it is open to public. Enter Queen’s Park and take the high road (anti-clockwise) round (not up!) Arthur’s Seat. This has a steady gradient (elevation 300 ft). Half way round we make our way down to Duddingston. Coffee break (around 11.30) at Dr Neil’s Garden (near the Sheep Heid Inn) where there is a toilet. Coffee shop is not open on a Wednesday.
After coffee we walk through Duddingston Golf Course (official path) and Figgate Park. Lunch will be at the picnic tables next to Crumbs on the Prom (excellent bacon rolls).
That will be the end of the walk.
We regret that no dogs are allowed on our walks.
Quoted finishing times are rough estimates and should not be relied upon.
If people want to get a 44 bus back to Currie Library they can walk along the Prom to Joppa to the 44 bus stop on Milton Road. This will extend the walk to approx. 7.5 miles.
A variety of buses into town can be caught on Portobello High Street.
Please WhatsApp or text the leader if you would like to book a place on this walk with your name and mobile telephone number, and advise if you have a medical condition relevant to your walking. Please also provide an emergency contact number.
