A walk that includes walking alongside the river Ely from Peterson-super-Ely to reach the Vale Hotel and Golf Club. The return leg starts with about a mile of road walking before continuing across open fields. I previously led this walk in 2010; my recent recce showed that a large number of the stiles have been replaced with gates, kissing gates and gates within a gate.
Note: BRITISH SUMMER TIME ENDS TODAY so remember to set your clocks back and hour.
I have classified this walk as leisurely as there are only a couple of small climbs of 50 and 30 metres. However some of the fields are rough in places. There are three stiles, two of which need some attention. There is a stream that does not have a footbridge. On the previous occasion the group declined the option of crossing this stream and we needed to backtrack. This time I will inform the group of the alternative route that involves a section of road walking and allow individuals to make their own choice. I advise those who wish to use the stream route to wear gatters.
