From the parking area the route enters the Llanover estate and exits through an avenue of Sweet Chestnut trees. We cross the main road and make our way to the Brecon and Monmouth Canal where we make a short stop for coffee etc. After crossing over the canal the route follows fields and tracks gradually climbing to the Goose and Cuckoo Inn where we stop for lunch. Lunch over we make our way across fields to the start.
There are some sections of the walk where walking poles would be an asset.
I have used the Ramblers grade of Strenuous for the walk but I think this is overstating the difficulty. I have classed the grade as Moderate plus which was used by Taff Ely Ramblers in similar situations.
We have our lunch stop at the Goose and Cuckoo and if we use their facilities i.e. tolets or outdoor seating I think it would be curtious to purchase some form of refreshment bearing in mind the pub is likely to be busy.
