The circular walk starts from the Hermitage village hall car park and proceeds along the course of the disused Didcot, Newbury and Southampton railway in a Northerly direction turning to the East just before the M4 embankment past Furze Hill to the Yattendon Road. The route continues along the Yattendon road for a short distance in a North Easterly direction before turning Southwards along a footpath towards Wellhouse. The route crosses the Marlston road into Round Hill wood for a mid morning break. The route then bears Westerly uphill to Grimsbury Castle and associated earth works before decending the Marlston road towards Hermitage and turning North along a footpath towards to the Fox PH at which piont the B4009 is crossed into Roebuck Wood from where the route turns Southward to Doctors Lane. From there the route heads Northwards to the Hamlet of Oare and then back to the car park.
With the recent heavy rainfall the walk is likely to be very muddy and also quite slippery in parts.
Please dress accordingly and wellington boots could be usefull. Also bring a snack and drink for a mid morning break. The number of walkers is unlimited, but please book online using the link below by 6pm on 22nd December.
