Starting from The Snug at the entrance of Snelsmore Common the route takes us across part of the Common and gradually down to Honeybottom from where it heads towards Bagnor. We then cross the beautifully clear Winterbourne Stream and pass Bagnor Manor before walking beside the River Lambourne for a short distance to reach Snake Lane. Climbing to the top of Snake Lane we then descend gradually by fields paths to reach Grove Road from where we once again walk beside the River Lambourne at the side of the golf course. We return to our cars via Donnington Castle and the western edge of Snelsmore Common.
The woodland paths on and around Snelsmore Common can be slippery with fallen leaves which can also hide embedded surface roots and mud. There are a few loose stony sections on part of the walk which can be slippery as can the short section beside the River Lambourne as we leave Bagnor Manor. Walking boots are recommended.
This walk is limited to 18 participants and hence you are requested to book online by 6.00pm on Friday, 26th December.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a snack and a drink for a mid-morning break.
