Overview

Starting point of the walk is at Fountain Head Car Park in Seaton Sluice, Post code NE26 4JY, What 3 Words vow.knots.broken.

From the carpark we will cross a busy main road to get to The Avenue, care should be taken here. Walking along the footpath we will pass Delaval Hall until we come to the Church of Our Lady, this is a beautiful church build in 1105 and if people want to, we can have a quick diversion here to have a look around the church yard. The church itself will likely not be open.

After the church we will continue up the main road towards Delaval Village before turning off onto the public bridleway onto Harbord Terrace. We will walk to the end of the lane and go through a metal gate then continue straight ahead between the fields to the kissing gate. There are some cows in this field so we should be aware of this. Once through the kissing gate we will continue on and to the left we will see The Obelisk which was a focal point for the Delaval family (this isn’t accessible to visit). We carry on until we reach the wooded Holywell Dene.

Through the gate we turn right onto the footpath and cross the former Blyth and Tyne railway cutting via the stone bridge and carry on to Holywell village in the ancient parish of Earsdon. We will follow the houses onto the footpath signposted Heritage Trail and follow this around the Holywell Pond Nature Reserve. There is a bird hide here where you can view the different birds on the water.

We continue on the footpath until we come to Dairy House Fields where we will go through another kissing gate. We follow the footpath until we come to a stile with steep steps descending into Holywell Dene which will lead us to Seaton Sluice Harbor where we will end the walk at the Melton Constable Pub.

The walk is muddy in some parts but is a very flat walk.
