We start on the Green in Horsted Keynes. The original names of the village was Horstede (The Place of Horses in Old English) but after Guillaume de Cahaignes, a French knight who participated in the Norman conquest was given Milton in Buckinghamshire and the Sussex village of The latter became Horstede de Cahaignes.We head North East through and out of the village passing Keynes Place, through Birch Grove Wood on our way to Twyford Lodge and Twyford Farm. The later is owned by the Countryside Regeneration Trust who are a charity promoting wildlife friendly farming and campaigning for a living working countryside. We pass through Grinstead Woods which forms part of this estate, then some fields with fine views to the South, which the South Downs can be seen on a clear day.
We head South along the Sussex Border path, past, Broadhurst Manor numerous fishing ponds, and before Broadhurst lake and St Giles' Church and arrive back in Horsted Keynes for a Picnic Lunch after 5.4miles
After Lunch we head South initially on the Sussex Border path then turn West passing Keysford, under the Bluebell Railway, Nobles Farm and reach Three Bridge Arch bridge. The landslide in the 2000 version of The Railway Children was filmed here, and you can still see the scar in the cutting. We cross over the bridge passing Little Oddynes Farm on our way back to Horsted Keynes.
