A long walk of some 12 miles/20km with 3000ft/1000m of ascents. Quite a challenging walk but good conditions underfoot and mostly easy paths to follow. Great views and spectacular Tors.
Park at Hound Tor Car Park (free). We climb Hound Tor then down across the brook towards Smallacombe Rocks. A climb up to Black Hill for fantastic views over Lustliegh Cleave and to the East. Then to Holwell Tor and follow the tramlines into the quarry. Depending on weather, we will either stop on Black Hill for coffee or at the quarry. On to Haytor rocks, Saddle Tor, probably across to Rippon Tor, Hollow Tor and then Bonehill Down and Honeybag Tor for lunch. We can then descend and walk around to Jay’s Grave and back to the car park.
