Overview

An figure of eight 11 mile walk along both sides of the Teign Gorge crossing over at Fingle Bridge.

Starting from the National Trust car park (free for NT members) we will walk along to Hunter’s Tor for spectacular views before descending steeply into the gorge.

We then walk along the riverside on good paths through Whiddon Wood and Hannicombe Wood before stopping at Fingle Bridge for tea break.

We continue along the riverside and then take a steep ascent to Woosten Castle, Willingstone Rock, and Butterdown Hill where we will stop for lunch.

After lunch we continue on to Cranbrook Castle before a steep and stony descent to Fingle Bridge (again) where we can take a quick break.  The climb out of the Gorge is steep.  Next is Sharp Tor and then back to Castle Drogo.

11 miles, 2400ft ascents.  Riverside walk is easy going.  Ascents/descents are tough.  Views are spectacular.
