Leaving from Housedean Farm entrance, we cross the bridge over the A27 and follow the South Downs Way up until joins the Juggs Road -Drove Avenue track. Passing the top of Castle Hill Nature Reserve, the walk continues until the track meets the Falmer Road where we cross, with caution and continue walking along Drove Road, which runs at the back of Woodingdean more or less parallel to Warren Road. Continuing on this now flint path, walkers who wish to leave and continue down to Brighton Elm Grove by bus can cross to the stop at the junction of Wilson's Avenue traffic lights. The main group continues and crosses onto grassland at the top of Bear Road walking down, crossing Tenantry Down and entering Woodvale Cemetery. The walk now follows into the Extra Mural part where there is a path crossing through the oldest part of the cemetery, then down to the Lewes Road. Buses can be taken here back into Brighton or back towards Lewes.
This is a linear walk and is best approached by bus 28/29 towards Lewes, alighting at Housedean Farm. Any walkers coming from Lewes direction can get the bus towards Brighton and alight at Housedean Farm stop. Wait safely until the main group approach from the opposite side of the A27! There are many places to get snacks or lunch along the Lewes Road on return. Explorer map 122.
