A pleasant and varied walk in woods and fields which is fairly level with a couple of mild inclines. There are several stiles on this route. We head west from Hyde Heath through the woods and what the locals call the fairy tunnels due to the trees grown together across the tops. Emerging on to the road, we walk a short way along the sidewalks to turn through a storage/junk yard with lots of wacky objects on show. From here we head across open fields and end up on the edge of South Heath, and Ballinger Bottom. The way continues a short distance along Herberts Hole where we will stop for lunch at some fallen trees. We then head up through the woods and pass Little Hundridge farm and later Hundridge Manor. We descend across the fields to the road and cross to reach Hawthorn Farm, before turning southwards back to Hyde Heath. If there has been heavy rain I may adapt the route slightly to avoid the muddiest paths and walk on lanes instead but this will not increase the distance and may decrease it by a little. There may be horses in a field.
We hopefully will see some bluebells in the woods which seem to be coming out in some places.
The nearby Plough Inn is available for refreshments post walk if desired.
Well behaved dogs are allowed. Please bring a packed lunch.
